Today I saw a Ukrainian conscription video on Bilibili that broke my heart. Whenever ordinary people hear populist, tough slogans, they always get fired up and shout for war. Yet when war actually arrives, its cruelty far exceeds what most can imagine. The video showed a Ukrainian man being forcibly taken away by conscription officers while his family tried desperately to stop them. An angry woman in the footage asked the officers why they themselves were not going to the battlefield. Yes, only now do people realize that society is deeply unfair. When war comes, their children will eventually be sent to fight, while the children of the elite patriotically stay safe. They take important government posts or do low-risk jobs in the rear and then send the sons, husbands, and fathers of ordinary families to die.
From the very beginning of the war I condemned the Russian government and Putin’s expansionism, but I also understand that NATO’s continuous eastward expansion had already crossed Russia’s red line. If sooner or later Russia had to fight pro-Russian forces inside Ukraine to protect the interests of ethnic Russians, Putin did not care about choosing Ukraine as the battlefield.
I am Chinese. I have no emotional attachment to either Russia or Ukraine. Moreover, I am furious that Russia historically seized huge swathes of Chinese territory and caused countless disasters for the Chinese people. I believe that if the United States had not been containing China, China would never have supported Russia.
Yet people like us often calculate only paper interests. We treat war like a video game where the leaders of two countries move their soldiers with a single command while drinking red wine and listening to music until the war ends. In reality, the children of ordinary people are screaming on the battlefield with arms and legs blown off, bandaged heads, no hot meals for a week, and lives that can be lost at any moment.
I just want to ask the democrats in Ukraine and the clown Zelensky this question: using your own brains, do you really think you can defeat Russia? The Americans and Europeans can give you money, but will they send troops to fight? Among all you fierce anti-Russian hardliners, how many have actually gone to the front? You engage in corruption in the rear while the children of ordinary people bleed on the battlefield. Zelensky, if you want to be a hero and sacrifice for your country, go fight on the front line and die there. Use your death to move the Ukrainian people and make them fight to the last drop of blood. Otherwise you shuttle between Washington, London, and Paris giving speeches, enjoying the treatment of a political star, refusing to stop the war while countless family tragedies are created because of you.
Former US Secretary of State Blinken put it very clearly: some countries sit at the table, while others are on the menu. How could a country like Ukraine ever sit at the table? Are your brains broken for electing a clown like Zelensky as president and preparing to send the whole country to hell?
