Hey everyone, I came across some news about the Fujian carrier and wanted to share it for discussion. According to videos and info circulating online, the Fujian has successfully completed electromagnetic catapult launch and recovery tests for three types of carrier-based aircraft: J-15T, J-35, and KJ-600. As China’s first carrier with an electromagnetic catapult system, this is a pretty significant step.
- J-15T: An improved version of the carrier-based fighter, known for its solid performance. The catapult launch test seemed to go smoothly, likely designed for high-intensity missions.
- J-35: A stealth carrier-based fighter, part of the fifth-generation family. Its successful launch confirms its compatibility with the system and it might become a key asset for the carrier.
- KJ-600: A fixed-wing early warning aircraft, responsible for airborne command and control. Its successful takeoff and landing show that the Fujian’s catapult and arrestor systems are quite mature.
From the videos, the deck operations look smooth, and the electromagnetic catapult system can handle different aircraft types, which seems more efficient than ski-jump takeoffs. This test is likely part of the Fujian’s sea trials, bringing it closer to full commissioning. What do you all think? How much does the electromagnetic catapult tech boost a carrier’s combat capability? Let’s discuss!
